@jtr I use #Hugo for my personal website at https://www.complete.org/ and #Wordpress for my blog at https://changelog.complete.org. I use #OxHugo to export my #OrgMode files from #OrgRoam for my website. It took quite some fiddling to get set up, but now that it's set up, it Just Works.

I wouldn't use it for a blog, though, due to lack of comments, ActivityPub integration, etc.

as far as target audience, it will definitely make things like building static sites with #hugo pretty seamless.

gitlab's been behind github in the rde department.

they say the end goal is so 'you can define a remote development environment and quickly provision pre-built environments on either your own cloud provider or using shared GitLab compute'.

as a nvim girl, i think they're missing the boat by only supporting vs code until it reaches 'Complete or Loveable maturity'

Für #Wordpress gibt es wahrscheinlich die meisten Plugins, Anleitungen und Sicherheitslücken.

Wenn es minimalistisch-wartungsarm sein soll, #Hugo mit einem beliebigen Webhoster. Das muss man aber mögen.

Ansonsten gibt es auch im #Fediverse #Blog-Plattformen wie #writefreely und #Plume.

Hmpf. Bei #StaticSite-Generatoren wie #Hugo liegt die Tücke doch oft im Detail. Sobald man nicht nur einen einfachen Blog (was der Hauptanwendungsfall zu sein scheint) sondern eine ganz normale klassische Webseite bauen will, stellt man fest, dass Themes nicht vollständig sind und man an allen Ecken und Enden kleine Anpassungen machen muss. Z.B. weil die Sidebar nicht mitscrollt und Menüpunkte nicht erreichbar sind sobald man mehr als die 3 Menü-Items in den Beispielen hat.

Wow, watch out for your #themes, people. I thought that with statically-generated self-hosted #Hugo things should be great, right? But no, almost every theme pulled some asset (#fonts, #JavaScript, or #CSS) from a remote server. That's a leak right there.

Now I'm going to have to check my blog and see what #Wordpress is doing. I bet it's even worse..

Yikes. When did it become STANDARD to publish themes that expose visitor data to 3rd parties? @aral small web can be tricky!

In the process of migrating my website from #MoinMoin to #orgroam and #hugo with static HTML files. This is pretty nice. My main annoyance is that all the Hugo themes try to do too much. I just want a minimalist responsive one. I don't want side bars, Twitter icons, etc.

Really glad that all the social profiles I list on my blog are now #FLOSS and #selfhosting capable (and many are #federated) except for GitHub.

Boy, when you use a complicated #Hugo theme and neglected to keep up with theme changes - and didn't have time to blog - until your theme version no longer renders with the new Hugo, rebasing is ... a pain!

Hat jemand einen Tipp für #HTML #Static #Site Generatoren? Ich habe mal #Hugo angeschaut, aber selbst simpelste Dinge sind PITA und die Doku ist einfach nur Mist. Bei #jekyll schreckt mich das #Ruby ab, das war bei #Mastodon schon ein Krampf.

Webseiten erstellen mit #Hugo ist im Detail doch komplizierter (und schlechter dokumentiert) als ich dachte. #staticsitegenerator
