@morgan

Turns every theory of human evolution on it's head. I'm sure there's going to be A LOT of push back against it.

Evolution advances, not by a priori design, but by the selection of what works best out of whatever choices offer. We are the products of editing, rather than of authorship.

Look in the mirror, and don't be tempted to equate transient domination with either intrinsic superiority or prospects for extended survival.

Our new paper on modelling the dynamics of a beneficial genetic variant is out @eLife.

We extend a method for inferring the spread of a strongly selected allele, originally developed by Novembre et al. (journals.plos.org/plosbiology/). We now incorporate and allow for dynamics.

Refreshing my and knowledge and I found this quote I like enough to share with my fellow : "With chimpanzees, this social grooming takes up more than 16 percent of their time. Aiello and Dunbar established a mathematical law from the behavioural data of contemporary primates and applied it to hominins. They came to the conclusion that Australopithecus spent 20 percent of its time on social grooming; this time then increased to 45 percent for Homo neantherthalensis and Homo sapiens. However, we no longer spend half of our time delousing each other in order to maintain social stability [...]". (from Silvana Condemi and François Savatier, A Pocket History of Human Evolution)
