good thing I decided not to be a beta tester this time. Here we go again, fixing things that ain't broken, thus breaking things. Nothing new! #Humanware #BrailleDisplays and #iOS17Beta.

@kev Hmmm, I wonder if that's possible. #Humanware is charging something like $275 for a possible port replacement. That's fucking crazy!
@devinprater see I am still unclear on why they went with #Humanware for the ereader when they had previously done a large pilot program with the #orbitreader20 which works with many more devices out of the box and is used by organizations like the RNIB and could have been implemented in a similar fashion.
Here we go. #Humanware demonstrating the new VR stream third gen. 16 Gigs of internal memory. Device supports up to 1 TB SD card. Pretty incredible!!! It has a headphone and a line-in jack on the bottom of the unit. Battery is not user replacible. Reason is better battery life. Buttons on the device are just a bit larger than prior versions. Non-skid strip on the bottom to keep it from sliding off desks. More coming. Stay tuned. #NFB23
Interesting hidden menu in the #Humanware #NLS #EReader: Try holding down the up volume and power button until it starts up. It will do that starting up sequence like usual, then go into recovery mode,. Then you see the cells come up as if it powered down. short press the power button, and it goes into startup again. When it starts up this time, you'll see the usual menue, but with a diagnosis test option added. Go in there and you'll see various tests, such as braille cell test, keyboard test, even a headset test. One person claimed that he was able to hear classical music when he ran the headset test. I didn't hear anything when I tried it. So, hmmm.
I am considering getting the Sense Player from Hims at around $750, but I wonder if its any worse than the Victor Reader Stream 3? I am mainly getting it because the monthly payment is only $50 per month whereas the payment for the Victor is $78 monthly minimum which is just way way out of my league right now considering it costs less than the Sense player. Any recommendations? #Blind #VRS3 #SensePlayer #Hims #Humanware

I made my #HumanWare tech support rep laugh earlier. I hope that made his day.
Okay, for those using the #Humanware #NLSEReader, is anyone else getting an error when trying to access #NLSBard? I'm able to log in, but if I try looking up something, I'm getting an error message, then being sent back to the NLSBard main screan.

@fairyqueen91 Well, considering that if the eReader is from Humanware, it appears to be a #Chameleon, hardwarewise, I think we're getting a heck of a deal through #NLS, considering how sturdy this thing is, and how much it can do as an eReader with a Braille display terminal to boot. I'm glad that #NLS decided to work with #Humanware, rather than, say, #OrbitResearch. Yes, considering that the keyboard is much mor comfortable than the Orbit reader 20, which does have a notetaker of sorts, it would be nice if it did have a way to take notes. But until then, I can just connect it to my iPhone and use Notes on there for taking notes, and still have relative comfort.

I’ll ask this rather specific question here, in case there isn’t a mailing list. When Braille reflow is on, some paragraphs in some books are skipped. Also, even though I have formatting characters turned off, I still get what looks like a dots-3-4 or dots-7-5 character occasionally. This is modeled after the Humanware eReader display, but maybe there are common factors between the library loan version and the retail one. #Braille #accessibility #NLS #humanware

Merry early-Christmas to me and @TheZooLady! We now both have decent Braille displays, mine now being one that doesn't sound like a mini-gatling gun. #Humanware has done an awesome job with this little #NLS #EReader, and I am totally loving it! I've so far downloaded several books from #NLSBard, and am writing this with the EReader connected to my iPad. Next step: put my character sheets and music on here so I have easy access to that stuff. And one of the things I love with this: it has *INTERNAL* storage, so I don't have to have anything attached or inserted! Yes, this is perfection in an equally perfect case right here!
