One of my favourite monuments in #KensalGreen #Cemetery is John Cam Hobhouse.
Radical, Bonapartist, friend of #Byron . He was in Paris for the #HundredDays and saw #Napoleon. Imprisoned for writing a political pamphlet, then MP within a year. Member of Government, ennobled as Baron Broughton.
He married a lady whose parents died in Verdun, caught in France at the end of the Peace of Amiens.
His brother was killed at #Waterloo.
His life demonstrates the turmoil in the early 19th century.
