Reverse Archimedes screw turbine, silently and elegantly doing its thing on the River Goyt, generating enough electricity to power 50-60 homes. Community owned and funded since 2008.

@canarymediainc @emberclimate “With nuclear in the equation, carbon-free sources accounted for over 40 percent of the U.S. electricity mix in 2022.”

June 2023 = 7.58%, 6.77%, 5.45%, 18.19%.

Ergo, good to have and maintain steady clean-air nuclear energy in the mix for transition.

This when compared to Site C in BC is exactly why it is so frustrating. Hydro is important base load but the at more than 10x the cost for a similar size project AND one that is funded predominantly by private capital. You can argue that AB might build out renewables faster under a different govt but they are still building them out faster than any other province so... Shame on us?

Regular reminder that has vast untapped resources.

The nation is almost completely dependent on imported for despite having such vast resources.

Japan’s vast clean and energy resources include , , , and more.

Wind and solar now generate record 12% of global electricity

Once up a time, Lake Onslow was called Dismal Swamp. In 1890 they dammed the Teviot River which feeds it and built a dam. In 1982 a new dam raised the water level by another 5m.

The government is continuing down the path of pumped hydro despite its estimated $16b price tag.

Is it a good idea? Are there workable alternatives? Because $16b would buy a lot of wind & solar, reducing the overall load on the grid.

@cabinguy Dinorwig Power Station has been doing the same, but with water since it was built in 1984. When the grid doesn't need power, it uses surplus power to pump water back up to its reservoir. And it make this change in just a few seconds. Great to see this concept expanding.

The idea that there is no electricity when its not windy /sunny is something put about by gaslighters or the stupid.

@kb1lqd shared an awesome video about a . This is a great overview of complexity of grids. Note that and often FOLLOW the grid frequency so cannot SET the frequency. That’s a big problem with 100% as you need some synchronizing generators which are maybe but often steam based like .

@JohnLMacFarlane No, the law only impacts proof-of-work mining companies using carbon sourced power. Companies that use or in New York State can expand or renew permits and new entrants will be allowed to come online.

I forget to drink more and my boyfriend got me a water to always carry with me. I must admit that that helped with my struggle to drink water, and I can hardly forget about it since the bottle is always with me.

Hopped out the shower and into a prewarmed bed - find heated mattress pads are soooOoooOoo addictively , I love em, 200% better than heated blankets on cold nights ... and can leave the thermostat right down low to save a few cents on the , too.

We just got our first ! I love it so much — I didn’t realize how much the anxiety of burning gas was making me hate driving. I actually love the driving part!

We bike commute/walk to work, so overnight charge from a normal wall plug is more than enough for the driving we do, but even without a full charge; I don’t have range anxiety at ALL. Even sitting in traffic is like… no car anxiety anymore.

I am exited to drive for fun again! 🤩
