One of the reason being the cost of developing technologies can vary significantly depending on the specific technologies being developed and the scale of the development efforts. For different scenarios armed forces will pick the best suited missile for the job.(3/3)

So while the procurement of weapons, especially hypersonic cruise will increase we will not witness a major decrease in the procurement of supersonic missiles. Just like supersonic missiles didn't replace subsonic missiles. (2/3)

I'm seeing some news on weapons. I think hypersonics works for transport aircraft that can slow down to manuver to land. For weapons, slowing down increases the threat and reduce their impact. So, they want to go fast until the target, but doing so impacts their ability to manuver, use sensors, or calculate their position. This makes it very difficult to have a hypersonic weapons that does more than fly straight then slow down. I think it is a good idea, but probably overhyped.
