Finnish company, Kuva Space has been awarded with a €5 million commercial contract to be the sole provider of hyperspectral data services for the European Commission's Copernicus Contributing Missions (CCM) program. The Kuva Space technology is utilized to monitor farming and aquaculture crops, forests, methane release, and harmful algae blooms. Collected data is helping in decision making related to the global issues.

With CHIME, and NASA's SBG, there could be a handful of different #hyperspectral sensors in orbit by 2030. Each of each producing over 0.5 TB of data per day. A huge challenge for state-of-the-art #MachineLearning, but therefore a great opportunity.

As an aside, I used to work in #remote_sensing and techniques were similar. #Hyperspectral digital sensors on board #aircraft or #satellites could capture 512+ unique color bands over the #ultraviolet to long #infrared range. These were used for things like crop detection, mineral exploration, mapping pollution of water, etc, etc. Made for some interesting band combinations.

Continuing our #introduction, our research ranges across scales from individual #plants to the globe, across many #terrestrial and #aquatic #ecosystems, and utilizes state-of-the-art #remotesensing imagery including #hyperspectral, #hyperspatial, #multitemporal, #thermal, and #LiDAR data, collected from spaceborne, airborne, and terrestrial sensors.​

I am research scientist working at VTT Finland with #hyperspectral imaging and #MEMS process integration. I work with thin film growth/deposition technologies: atomic layer deposition (#ALDep), chemical vapor deposition (#CVDep) and physical vapor deposition (#PVDep) and patterning of these thin films. I am application oriented, and my background is in microfabrication and semiconductor technology.
