Edward Kelley was the first article I edited on wikipedia in 2003 (I've been on wikipedia for a bit) . My great great grand aunt was reputedly a powerful witch. She got swindled in a land deal and made the land in question fallow. Apparently to this day nothing grows on it.

I always steered clear of anything labelled divination because I thought it was just fanciful fortune-telling— I’ve never been so happy to be completely wrong!
I love how the symbolism & archetypes of #tarot and the daoist-confucian philosophy and ethos of change in the #IChing serve to stimulate creative thinking that’s in large part outside our usual binary logic circuits.

I've been exploring the fediverse for about a year and I've settled on how I want to use it: I'm starting fresh here to focus on magic :_candleb:
I'm mostly into #tradcraft, Ancient #Mediterranean magical techniques and cosmology, narrative forms of magic (#historiola as well as modern takes: #WeavingFate by Aidan Wachter is probably the single most influential book in my practice), and #divination (#astrology, #tarot, #geomancy, and I've started dabbling with the #IChing as a total dilettante). I'm also studying #herbalism formally as one pathway into what you might call #wortcunning
Some of my ongoing magical projects include crafting a personal ritual year and taking stock of the past few years' worth of experiments to decide on my next big step: that's my focus in 2023.

Just for fun, I once constructed and programmed a little electronic gizmo that would cast the I Ching, using the 16 bead method. Red lines are moving lines, green are ordinary lines.

The original method of consulting the I Ching was a tedious exercise with yarrow stalks. But there exists a simpler method using 16 beads which has the same mathematical probability as the yarrow.

My favorite book of interpretations is The Portable Dragon: The Western Man's Guide to the I Ching Paperback – by R. G. H. Siu
It has the traditional Chinese interpretations, but in addition it has them explained using quotations from Western literature. Citations from everyone from Epictetus to Thomas Wolfe, A.A. Milne to Machiavelli, Jane Austen to Tachibana Akemi. Quite valuable to a TTRPG game master.

Setting the intention: Brave Writing uses a line prompt and a timed writing session to stoke your creative energy. I am going to challenge myself to do a session, casting an #IChing hexagram as a starting point, at least 4 times a week until the New Year.
Pick a line, set the timer for 7 minutes, and just keep that pen moving.

I did pick up my first copy of the #IChing. I don't understand the #history and largely the significance much, I'm looking forward to reading the included forward and explanation and diving down a few #wiki holes for sources to follow up with.
