A price cap of $7/GJ for domestic gas allows for all gas fields in eastern Australia to make profits over and above a return on equity, with some gas fields highly profitable at this level.

The Australian government has instead chosen $12/GJ as the gas capped price.

's LNG/gas analyst Bruce Robertson says $12/GJ is simply not reasonable and is 70% above a fair price.

NEW ANALYSIS: The approval for the 's new Cumbria coal mine makes little sense.

The assumption the mine will meet demand from the steel industry runs counter to leading steel firms attempts to deploy new clean production technologies.

Little of the new coal will be used by UK steelmakers, who are making it clear they want government support to transition away from coal in order to remain competitive.

If the UK government wants to maintain a domestic primary steelmaking capacity, it will need to provide financial support to the major producers to transition, undermining the rationale for the mine’s approval.

It already seems clear that little of the coal from the new mine will be used by the UK steel industry.

But if the government moves to support the steel sector’s transition away from coal – as is already doing – then approval for the new coal mine makes even less sense.

ARGH: Vanguard has just pulled out of the Net Zero Asset Manager initiative.

Looks like , with about $7 trillion in global assets under management in 2021 - yes you read that right - was never serious about taking climate action.

...as pointed out in this 2021 report "Vanguard Group: Passive about climate change' ieefa.org/resources/vanguard-g

There's been a lot of talk about introducing a gas reservation policy on the east coast of . It should be done - as over 70% of gas produced on the east coast of Australia is exported - but at what price?

suggests domestic gas should be capped at $7/gigajoule and not the $12 currently being touted.

$12/GJ for gas is just gifting the gas cartel super profits for the majority of their production - to the detriment of Australian energy consumers.

For projects like Barossa, Santos' partners will be looking very, very closely at whether they actually decide to proceed with this.

The ruling would influence investor confidence in the project, as well as others on the Australia's north-west shelf.

While China’s ambition to green its financial market has been making significant progress, investors should remain cautious as not all onshore green bonds play by the same rules.

Enterprise green bonds, issued by state-owned enterprises, have yet to apply Green Bond Principles.

The coal, oil and gas sectors have lost their financial rationale.

From a structural standpoint, two economies are emerging—one based on fossil fuels and one based on sustainability—that cooperate and conflict but ultimately integrate into one fragile, changing energy system.

In this, climate change is increasingly acknowledged and seen as a financial risk.

This fact, in addition to global competition, should have institutional investors questioning the need to invest in fossil fuels at all.

A recent report that's worth the read!

Coal-driven climate change is becoming a big problem – for coal.

Flooding in Australia has contributed to a 22% increase in unit costs for major Australian thermal coal miners this year.

With the climate trend set to worsen thanks to the consumption of fossil fuels, the industry can expect more disruption.

Inside Mike Cannon-Brookes’s coup

What he’s saying is we need things like community batteries at the end of the street. Individual batteries in the home. Electric cars providing power, vehicle to grid, explains IEEFA’s Bruce Robertson.

He means nothing less than turning the traditional model of electricity provision upside down.
