1st person to make a #Flying #machine was a #Muslim #scientist & #Inventor

In 852, a 1000 years before the #airplane by Wright brothers, Abbas Ibn Firnas jumped from the minaret of the Grand Mosque in #cordoba using a loose cloak stiffened with wooden struts.

The cloak slowed his fall, creating what is thought to be the 1st parachute, and leaving him with only minor injuries

His designs would have been an #inspiration for Leonardo da Vinci, 💯s of years later

The whimsical creations of Rowland Emett are simply stunning! Emett’s inventions are said to be fantastical, functionless contraptions, using found objects and lots of recycled bike parts.

I love biking & bicycles, and it was so inspiring to see Emett's world with bike wheels celebrated in each creation. I wish we all lived in his world. On display at the Ontario Science Centre.
