Spent the last ~week debugging and trying to understand MTU issues with WireGuard on DS-Lite and PPPoE connections with ICMP "black holes", MSS clamping and nftables. Quite the ride! Think I managed to sort of understand things now...

One of those days when I reconfirm my suspicion that #IPv6 isn't being adopted due to it being overly complicated with some poor implementations in the field.

Todays confirmation comes from a #Huawei 5G CPE PRO #router, which is connected to an IPv4-only ISP, has no "Disable IPv6" option, and insists on advertising itself as a valid IPv6 route using the IPv6 Neighbor discovery protocol, which means any device on the same LAN ends up failing to connect to IPv6 hosts due to the dead route. 🤦‍♂️

@brettglass @kyo @BNetzA I don't have CGNAT, but an entore /29 of #IPv4's at my disposal.

That being said I don't have even a single #IPv6...

Don't ask me why they refuse to allocate even a /64 to me when they're happy to allocate an /29 at no extra cost to me.

I was wrong, it wasn't #ipv6, it was #mediapermissions in the #nextcloud app that stopped the #NextcloudDeck app from syncing.

So, starting Feb 1 2024 #AWS will be charging $0.005/hour for each #IPv4 address you have, including the basic one needed for each active service. That's roughly $3.60 per month per address assuming a 30-day month. My guess is a lot of sites based on AWS infrastructure are going to become #IPv6 only that month.

@beasts And so it begins. :) This'll lead to all the sites that depend on cloud services for their infrastructure starting to be IPv6-only for new stuff to avoid the cost. At that point #IPv6 support ceases to be a nice-to-have because people will _complain_ if they can't reliably use the big sites.

Kann ja nicht sein, dass 1000ende Hobbyadmins umlernen müssen. Ohne NAT schließlich keine Firewall und nur DHCP ist echt in Klasse C.
