Hi,
I spotted this article on The Journal:
UK air traffic services says fault was caused by flight data it received
It is another example of an #IQTrainWreck (based on what’s reported).
Raises questions about:
1) #DataQuality controls at input
2) #DataQuality controls on import/ingestion
3)Exception handling processes.
4)Recovery processes
However, in a high risk environment doing a “stop everything” action when unexpected happens is disruptive but necessary.

#DataQuality issues impact on people. This is another #IQTrainwreck from Ulster Bank but highlights how small data quality issues can have significant impacts on people.

*#IQTrainWreck is a #DataQuality or #InformationQuality problem that causes an embarrassing but avoidable headline or results in significant impacts on people or organisations. I coined the term back in 2005. See http://iqtrainwrecks.info for some classic examples or check the hashtag over on the bird site as well.

https://www.businesspost.ie/article/up-to-35000-bank-of-ireland-customers-impacted-by-error-on-kbc-mortgage-transfers/ #IQTrainwreck A date error in the transfer of loans from one bank to another meant detail weren’t transferred to the CCR, potentially impacting customer’s ability to take out new loans. (At least this bank owned up to their error)
#IQTrainwreck Inaccuracies in flood risk data leave home owners struggling to get insurance. https://m.independent.ie/business/personal-finance/insurance/homeowners-denied-full-home-insurance-cover-due-to-flood-risk-fears-based-on-map-errors-42370985.html
Now: does this raise a #DataProtection issue about accuracy of data relating to an identifiable person and automated processing having a legal effect? (I think it does)
#IQTrainWreck #ExcelHell It appears an excel error resulted in Virginian schools now getting a lot less then they’d budgeted https://www.washingtonpost.com/education/2023/01/31/virginia-schools-state-aid-error/
I wrote a thing for the company blog about the electricity overcharging kerfuffle in Ireland.. a #DataQuality error in a calculation resulted in households being overcharged to fund a subsidy to large energy consumers https://castlebridge.ie/insights/data-quality-a-bottom-line-cost-for-society/ #IQTrainwreck
So, #Birdsite management are trying to get fired staff to come back because they fired them "by mistake".
This is a classic #IQTrainwreck - decisions made on the basis of incorrect data resulting in a critical business issue.
All this tinkering with a new thing has made me realise I need to reboot https://iqtrainwrecks.info, but in the meantime, here's the #Jackson5 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y2bVIBwpCTA #DataQuality
