Mein Verhältnis zur Europäischen #Stechpalme (#Ilex aquifolium) ist nicht ungetrübt. Die Blätter des robusten immergrünen Strauchs sind ganz hübsch mit ihrem satten Grün, ihrem Hochglanz und den abwechselnd auf- und abwärts geneigten Stachelzähnen. Aber wer je als Kind beim Herumtollen barfuß auf ein abgefallenes Blatt getreten ist, das ich im Gras verborgen hat, wird sich dem Ilex später stets nur unter Vorbehalt nähern.
