Bird flu outbreak longevity
I'm speculating whether the current outbreak is still ongoing and spilling over due to COVID's immune suppression.

We know that wildlife (incl deer) have had COVID, and is probably mutating in their population just as in humans.

So a prior outbreak that fizzles out now continues as the R is just a bit higher.

No idea. These variants are evolving so fast, it's hard to study them quickly before they are gone and replaced.

Also, prior infection immunity is a crapshoot. Totally depends on the individual.

The variants that take over have a fitness advantage, either with prior immunity not holding up, or they are more transmissible. Also each prior infection creates a new vulnerable population due to #ImmunityTheft or the #LeonardiEffect

The UK has been terrible about vaccination and has been deliberately infecting kids. The US though has a policy of neglect if not active malice, and the pediatric vax rate is pretty low.

The US healthcare system is such a mess, that we'd probably not even see a Strep A outbreak.

My money is on #ImmunityTheft as the cause, but honestly I thought it would be the geriatric crowd with strange illnesses in the hospital, relatively speaking.
