I’m in a similar situation. I’m #Immunocompromised. #MedicalFacilities in my area are no longer #masking.

I need a new pair of glasses. Don’t get me started on my other medical needs… Not to mention my need for myself and progeny to survive #ClimateChange …

So I need new glasses. My current pair is scratched. Once that scratch-proof coating is breached, the whole surface just starts to peel away.

I need a full optical exam. I have (hopefully still minor) eye issues. I’m no spring chicken.

I am not willing to have an inadequately-masked examiner breathe directly into my face. I will not risk my life or my family’s health just so I can read the fine print (and road signs…). That’s how I let my glasses degrade this far in the first place.

It probably won’t work to ask the optical staff to adequately mask to protect my life (blah blah blah, they don’t care).
Monetary gain doesn’t matter (plenty of other customers willing to risk their health for their services).

What about #SocialComparison or #SocialPressure? I wonder if I could say something like “Optometrists have agreed to…” “Doctors are willing to…” “Leading medical providers…”

Oh gawd, I have recollections of the #cringe response to “Well, up NORTH, we…” …while talking in the south. I am not, nor have I ever been a yankee. And I really don’t want to be accused of being a damn yankee. But here we are.

I’ve been thinking about the nasty comments I saw yesterday on Twitter when someone described their attempts to seek safe medical treatment. They were #Immunocompromised. #MaskMandates were cancelled at the hospital.

The #DumpsterFire:
Doctors, #MedicalStaff refused to #mask, even if it could save the life of their patients.
Bystanders and twitter replies were hostile, called out the disabled patient for being not-normal, weak, demanding.
Commenters used logical fallacies, distracting arguments to make their points on how the patient’s health was not important enough to rate any consideration.

So pointing out the benefits, the mortality, the simplicity of masking to protect someone didn’t work. I wonder what #SocialComparison may have helped. “Most people…” “People in your community are…” “The smartest folk…”
