Colonisers using bully tactics and divide & conquer have been in practice since invasion. And government consultation processes are usually flawed.

Disappointing, but not unexpected, that government and business owners are disrespecting Aboriginal Elders, Traditional Owners & Knowledge Keepers with plans to build an Aboriginal Art Gallery on a sacred women's space.

White settler-colonials too often see Aboriginal culture as an injection into the local tourist & hospitality economy. But culture is not a commodity. Culture is responsibility to ancestors, decedents not yet born, to Country. Culture is Lore & Law. Culture is protecting sacred sites.

“I demurred; much of our mythology and lore was indeed preserved in illuminated manuscripts written in Irish monasteries in the Middle Ages. “Maybe,” she said, “but is the female lore there? And what about the herbal lore? And the knowledge of magic?”

I admitted very little of this type of material had survived. But Lewis Cardinal interrupted with a challenge. ‘How would you know?’ he said. I said I was familiar with the contents of many of the major manuscripts, and that the type of knowledge Jo-Ann was referring to simply wasn’t there. He gave a knowing smile and nodded to Jerry, who explained that in old cultures such knowledge would generally not have been revealed to the uninitiated. The information would have been shared only with those who it was deemed deserved to know it, and they would have preserved it among themselves.”

"Traditional Owners and Aboriginal sustainability experts have warned the Australian government against making the same "mistake" it did with fossil fuel mining, and to properly consult First Nations leaders before developing renewable energy projects on their land.

It came as Indigenous activists from across the planet called on governments to respect First Nations' land rights during COP27 - the United Nation's annual climate conference."

Time to tackle those neglected dishes. While I do that, here's another @indigenousauthors book.

Song Spirals: sharing women's wisdom of Country through songlines (2019) by Gay'wu group of women.

Today I'm sharing Songlines: Tracking the Seven Sisters, edited by Margo Ngawa Neale.

Prof Neale is Head of Indigenous Knowledge Curatorial Centre, National Museum of Australia. This large format book is based on a past exhibition of the same name. I was fortunate to have seen this exhibition a few years ago.

Martu, Ngaanyatjarra, Pitjantatjara and Yankunytjatjara peoples participated in this expansive art, storytelling and knowledge project.

First Peoples around the globe hold knowledges and stories of the Pleiades constellation. For many, they're the Seven Sisters. Stories connect us.

Find out more about the exhibition, see some of the artwork, and watch the interactive multimedia here > nma.gov.au/exhibitions/songlin

After touring Australia from 2017, it headed to Europe. Was in Berlin this year, and France in 2023.

Today's is Country: Future Fire, Future Farming by Bill Gammage & Bruce Pascoe.

Uncle Bruce kindly signed it for me. And gave me a shout out on stage at Adelaide Writers Week 2022. Given I'd been heckled earlier that week whilst on stage, I needed that boost of Blak love.

"Jesus, (Chilean poet) what a day. Keep writing sis, because we don't know how long it will take. Eternity? I'm tired." Signed Bruce Pascoe, Adelaide 2022

@RadicalAnthro then I'd also recommend this book, Astronomy: Sky Country.

There's a growing group of young Aboriginal astronomers doing excellent work in Australia. Who connect with Elders and communities, to add .
