Last questions in our minisymposium on : What does it take to become a good modeller?

Answers from our guest speakers include persistence, stubbornness, patience, curiosity, creativity and interdisciplinary thinking.

Note that lots of prior experience in coding or maths is missing from the list, because these are just tools that can be learned on the way. So no need to feel intimidated - is for everyone! ;-)

@KorinnaAllhoff sounds since have been relevant both in my and research. Time a little difficult in UTC+0 with dawn about one hour after start. No need to send Zoom link (not secure in Fediverse anyway) I will try to find posts when it is happening.

Do you (want to) use in your research?

We organize a on Dec 14/16, 8:15-10 am German time, as part of my course. Nine international researchers will talk about why they started modelling and how computer simulations help them to address their research questions.

I will try to live-toot the event, but you are also welcome to join. Just text me for the zoom link! Everyone welcome! 😀

Sharing some resources, maybe useful for the broader community. We wrote a book on of . It is a step-by-step guide with that does not presuppose programming knowledge.

Hi colleagues! I'm a expert in and microbial ecology. I'm focus on study emergent properties from complex microbial communities applying in-silico bottom-up approach.
Interested in expand my knowledge about microbial evolution and machine learning.
I'm in my last year of PhD, so I'm looking for postdoc opportunities to continue my research.

I've now pivoted from timescales of millions of years, to days/weeks. I'm interested in how sexual conflict in insects changes (or doesn't) when population densities are very low. In particular, can insects' capacity for (asexual reproduction) help them survive population bottlenecks?

I hope to address this topic with experiments and / . I'm also interested in using to make the process more efficient.
