Sent an email enquiring about expanding my volunteering roles at the museum. Now I feel sick with worry that it was all wrong or didn't make sense. I guess worse that can happen is she'll say no.
I really wanna be more involved at the museum. I love doing nails, but I love natural history & science a lot more (it relates to my #SpecialInterest)
I get to #infodump on the public & it's a good thing. They want to hear it & it's part of my role.
By volunteering, I only have to do the bits I am interested in & enjoy. I don't have to do all the other stuff like running the shop or cafes, security checks, cleaning etc.

Today's #InfoDump is around marriage in Sweden and some of the interesting things around it.
i ended up reading two stories on FML regarding incest-adjacent relationships, so got curious about how the law stands in Sweden ("marriage" will be the description of their relationship since that's the one the law can affect).
Case 1: A is dating her (adult) nephew-by-adoption (to her sister's quite understandable squick!)
Case 2: B just found out that the reason she and her siblings are adopted and they have no contact with family ... is because her parents are half-siblings (and adopted to avoid genetic risks)
The first part of this is that in Sweden, each of these would be legal as marriages, with Case 2 needing extra permissions for the marriage.
Not allowed:
- marriage between parent/child, whether related through blood or adoption
- marriage between full, biological siblings
Allowed with extra bureaucracy/investigation:
- adopted siblings or half-siblings
Allowed:
- marriage between relatives that are not "directly" related (such as an aunt and nephew, or cousins)
Where I followed the white rabbit into what is generally needed for the extra permissions, and the answer boil down to "must not have grown up together", and (depending on the situation) might require meetings with psychologists and such.
A case that was discussed was two people meeting online and finding out they shared an absent father, or for instance having the same sperm donor when they were very close, and in that case the permission was given fairly quickly.
Y'know, I want to #InfoDump about some fun stuff that I learned when I was a kid and that stuck with me.
Let's start with the thing that apparently blows people's mind the most: Garlic is a natural source of acetylsalicylic acid (also known as ASA). Why is that of interest?
Because ASA is the pain-killer part of aspirin.
I learned this because I was reading a book about real life inspiration for various monsters, which included vampires.
There is a genetic medical condition named Porphyria (and also known as Vampyre Disease) because of the symptoms that led to the sufferers need a lot of iron (which was commonly found in blood), had to avoid sunlight due to allergies, got fang-like teeth and claw-like hands due to the skin deforming and ... here's the important thing:
they have a sensitivity/allergy to ASA, so modern people with it can't use aspirin.
Or, as you've probably figured out by now: eat garlic.
(the silver or crosses part of the vampire myths are from other parts, though)
Did you know that I co-host a #podcast for Aucademy called "Especially Interesting"?
We have #Autistic guests come on to #infodump about their #SpecialInterest (sometimes known as #dedicatedinterest)
It's some what of a passion project for me.
If you're an #actuallyautistic person with an interest you'd like to talk about, we'll pay you for your time!

It's always fun when one of your kids brings up something that is one of your #hyperfocus points (today it was #daemonology and #religion)
Eldest is plying #ObeyMe and brought up the names of some of the characters, and wound up listening to an #infodump on the Ars Goetia, mistranslations in the Bible resulting in the creation of various characters, and self-insert #fanfiction (Dante and Milton) creating other characters.

I'm just noticing now that I am less stressed here partly simply because I don't need to pay attention to the crazy low character limit of #Twitter anymore. I know why it was originally put in place (SMS) but that reason hasn't been valid for a LONG time now. Just doubling it was a meaningless move, even though it was very much welcomed. Also for a #neurodiverse server it's very appropriate to have native support to #infodump.

Follow up to what I just boosted. I wonder if the hashtag #InfoDump or #specialInterest is a thing? Once tc has searching I'd totally follow those. I'm the not autistic person who actually loves hearing about what other people find fascinating, whether I understand it or not.
