Trying to find only research articles (or review essays) is an interesting puzzle.

As others have mentioned, checking with an academic librarian for a curated list, and conducting boolean searches, are great starting points.

Some journals publish literature reviews (we don't, specifically, though we do publish evidence summaries of specific research articles).

However, there are some really cool tools you can use to improve the chances of finding things!

ResearchRabbit and Connected Papers allow you to find work that is connected, in some way, to a work that you specify - could be same author, same field, cited by, etc.

2Dsearch can be helpful, especially for anyone not used to boolean searching.

One of our biggest goals is to build communities! We want to improve the public's understanding of how research works -- how to conduct it, to parse meaning from it, and how to understand the processes that can sway meaning one way or another.

We also want to establish that research can do real good in the world! One example we're very proud of is our data-based adoption of a gender-neutral language policy to build a more inclusive research environment: scholarworks.sjsu.edu/ischools

: "This group of academic guinea pigs, mostly graduate students in education, psychology and librarianship, were part of a radical online search experiment run by the Syracuse University School of Library Science. SUPARS was one of many ambitious information-retrieval studies that took place between the late 1960s and mid-1970s on US university campuses. A number of factors led to the surge in this research. Developments in computer-processing capability for speed and storage had allowed academic databases and catalogues to be digitised and moved online. Computer terminals were newly modular and could be placed around campuses for decentralised access to mainframes. And military and industry funding for computer-based research was more abundant than it had ever been. Given the opportunity, academic librarians took advantage of the chance to explore this expensive new technology. In turn, universities offered unclassified environments for collaborations with corporate technology firms and military groups; SUPARS was sponsored by the Rome Air Development Center, the laboratory arm of the US Air Force.

It’s easy to see why librarians of the 1970s set out to revolutionise search. Work across the academy was expanding to such a degree that, soon, there would not be enough human librarians to support all of it."

When I accepted being trans, I came out at work right away: I both deserve to live as myself and am also privileged with relative safety in transitioning openly.

Now, as I consider an , it’s important to me to remain visible.

My research interests are not directly related to queerness, but l hope visibility will help other trans folks feel safer in academia.

More queerness in academia means more trans research will be funded in medicine, neuroscience, and sexology.

Will an academic be willing to discuss a short experiment I created to propose at a meeting next week?

I’m meeting with a faculty memeber at work to help decide if an IS PhD is right for me.

: "The students think that data is a matter of describing things as they are, and that there is no art to it and certainly no fashion. They very much want to let things speak for themselves when they approach a project like designing a schema to describe a set of things. What my students paradoxically fail to realize, in their zeal to be responsible, is that describing things by certain characteristics rather than others merely because those characteristics are countable is a profoundly subjective decision.

I remember vividly one especially conscientious student who designed a schema for describing socks. To keep her data as objective as possible, she specified only quantitatively measurable attributes, such as thickness in millimeters, circumference of the ankle opening, and precise composition of materials. She avoided anything that had the appearance of human judgment, such as what the socks might feel like on human skin, what outfits they might complement, or their stylishness. But was her data objective? Not at all. The circumference of the ankle opening? That’s one of the most subjective data elements I could have possibly imagined. What a useless bit of data! It was selected solely because the data creator had a personal preference for the appearance of objectivity. When we view objectivity and subjectivity as opposites rather than complements, this is the kind of trap we find ourselves falling into."
