Picking out this piece:
“Buddhism presents two conflicting views. All sentient beings deserve compassion and have Buddha-Nature. However, humans are a higher life-form by virtue of their capacities to pursue ethical and meditational practices leading to enlightenment.”
It strikes me that we don’t necessarily need to consider humans a “higher” life-form just because we have the capacity to practice. Arguably, our consciousness is one of the causes of delusion, and our capacity to practice gives us a way to strive for realizing our Buddha-Nature, which the rest of the biosphere just effortlessly manifests.

I deeply appreciate when someone has done the thinking and writing that pulls together a bunch of threads I’m interested in. I’m very excited now to use this as a starting point for engaged #research projects. The big picture framing I’ve been using is “societal transitions for planetary wellbeing”… and I love how this fractal metaphor is helping me connect small, feasible initiatives and actions with much larger purposes and objectives.

This piece has me reflecting on the tension between non-violence and interbeing.
And wondering if some interpretations of non-violence - ie never killing or harming any sentient being - reproduce the problematic dualism of human vs animal; culture vs nature.
How do we practice non-violence and interbeing? For example, when we recognize that if we eat meat we are literally making the body of another living being into our own physical body, and that as a result our physical body cannot be truly distinct from the meat we have eaten and thus the body of the animal we have (had) killed to eat it.
