Happy international non-binary day to everyone who doesn't fit into the two boxes!
I only really thought about gender for the first time a few years ago. Probably not even a decade back. I was not at all young, anyhow. The words 'male' and 'female' didn't mean anything to me in terms of who and what I was - I might as well have been defined by any random cluster of letters, a nmkl pkjl or a ftmch.
And I thought most people felt that way. It never occurred to me that when someone says that they're male/female/nb/other, it actually means something to them, isn't just a collection of letters, isn't just a placeholder.
Finding that out was a surprise. People are odd.
So, yeah, from then onwards I've mostly identified as ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ (or agender, if I have to pick something, as apparently ascii art doesn't count as a gender?!), because honestly, I haven't a sodding clue. I'm me. That's all I've ever been, only me.
Mind you, if you saw me in the street, you'd think I was a bloke, if a somewhat weird one, large and burly and blokeish and probably wearing trousers. So, you know, you don't get to assume someone's gender based on what they look like to *you*.
Happy day to everyone who is themselves, regardless of what society thinks you look like or ought to look like!
