This shit is a joke. If you're going to enforce an unnecessary tracker to tell companies what browser and plugins we're even using in order to be "enforced". Fuark OFF.

@nytpu even if your TV was "stupid" or you only had a monitor, it would still have some embedded tech...

At least some driver board that takes HDMI, scales it if needed and shoves out eDP for the panel.

Same but more complex with analog inputs and tuners...

Personally I'll stick with monitors as I want my screens as stupid as can be without stuff that could be weaponized to spy on me...

@mighty_orbot @njudah Which would make sense if there weren't already a feckton of other options that don't need stuff like or just sending a via or ...

Like when does someone need to print out a document remotely and not have a setup and noone onsite they could mail a link to the file on oshi.at or wsend.net and maybe even encrypt and decrypt it beforehand...

But maybe I just expect people to actually learn tech?

@TimWardCam @bert_hubert well, that's their choice then.

I'd not build a car if I can't comply with road safety standards.

Considering the flood of cheap & unmaintained "" devices, mandating manufacturers to actually support their crap will increase quality.

And if that means people won't get shitty €25 APs then so be it.

Lest you think modern devices have the market cornered on bugs, I just found a bug in the solid state control board logic in my 18 year old refrigerator. It has a flow meter that tracks usage for filter replacement reminder and measured fill in the door water dispenser. Turns out, if you reset the filter replacement reminder while the measured fill is displaying a desired fill amount (but not filling), it will go green, but back to red when the measured fill setting times out.

Seit dem letzten Update scheißt der Sony TV auf die per DHCP mitgeteilten DNS- und NTP-Server und versucht munter die Google-DNS abzufragen. Darf er natürlich nicht. Haben wir also jetzt einen Dumb TV. 🖕

@FuchsiaShock personally I refuse to buy devices if the sales person / store / manufacturer can't answer me the somple question of "WHY does it have / / "" bullshit?"

Most of the time it's just to spy on consumers and implement shitty always-online - like with the :

"This vin format looked eerily similar to the "nissancust" prefix from the earlier HTTP request. What if we tried sending the VIN prefixed ID as the customerId?"

Such a brilliant idea to put cars online and, basically, turn them into the proper internet devices was supposed to improve them... right? Right? :muwhaha:

Hacking to the point of not just scraping data, but also vehicle commands, is really terrifying, tbs.

A lot of questions for iRobot to answer, and once again it raises up the problem of IoT devices collecting data and sharing with third parties. As much as I respect the abilities of those vaccum machines, I despise such policies.

And yes, I'm saying this as someone who works in IoT :blobcatbatupsidedown:
