"Derrinlough is not only significant for former workers and local communities. Better understanding the momentous transformations that took place in the Midlands in the mid-twentieth century can help us better understand the scale of the energy transition required today."

Ireland's transport network has its faults, but when it works, it works well.
My choice of transport also meant that I could enjoy a cycle along the #Salthill seafront in the early morning sunshine and stumble across a nice bit of civic architecture like this new library by McCarthy O'Hora Architects. #IrishArchitecture
This really is a very impressive piece of work by Niall McLaughlin Architects - might need to find an excuse to visit #Limerick!

I'm very sorry to hear of the death on Tuesday of architect Noel Dowley. Originally from Galway, he lived in Dublin for many years and taught several generations of architects in UCD. He was passionate about his craft, generous in passing on his knowledge to his students and a gentleman to all. #IrishArchitecture
I believe he may also have been responsible for one of my favourite buildings in #Galway - the Terryland Waterworks. I took these photos about 23 years ago on a snowy foggy morning.
Lists like this are always highly subjective but this isn't a bad attempt at representing the breadth of the best Irish Architecture from prehistory to today

I used to work on Caple St, so I was perplexed by the image <g>. Since I was born in the 60's I don't have a memory of the church or else my infantile mind was not paying enough attention <g>
After much poking I figured out the Presbyterian Church thang, I put the associated Wikipedia link in my prior post

The regeneration of three blocks of apartments built in the 1960s will increase the number of homes by 40% without demolishing any of the existing flats.
This is sustainable residential development at its best. Credit to Grafton Architects and Dublin City Council for this initiative

It must be 12 or 13 years since Ryan Kennihan won this architectural competition - great to see that the project is still alive and may be built.

"The Irish Architecture Foundation is exploring the potential of an Irish Architecture Centre to increase the understanding of and curiosity about the importance and impact of architecture, its role in our lives and its role in a changing world....We want to share initial ideas about what this might be and hear from you about what you think."

Some beautiful photos of the restored Dún Laoghaire baths here by Ste Murray, showing off the great work done by DLRCoCo Architects and A2 Architects. Can't wait to take a spin out on the bike to see it in the flesh!
