An honour to meet the family of Stephen Fuller (the only survivor) at the event. Stephen served with distinction as a FF TD in the 1930s & 1940s.

On 14 February 1923, the management of Dublin's soon-to-open Fountain Picture House placed a teaser ad in the Evening Herald headed "City Film Offices Raided To-Day," probably a reference to the arson attack that destroyed Pathé's Dublin office the previous week.

1923, Meath Chronicle carried the full story of how the film Man-Woman-Marriage (US: Holubar, 1921) rescued from a Civil War arson attack on a train at Drumree on 24 January had been shown at the Navan Picture Palace the following night.

This week 1923, cinemas & theatres became part of the Irish Civil War in Cork, when anti-Treaty forces demanded they close when their members were being executed and the National Army insisted they remain open under pain of arrest. Image: Irish Independent.

A correspondent to the Irish Independent 1922 suggested that censors widen their focus from sex in films to violence in Westerns after a group of youngsters carried out a mock lynching, an example of how cinema promoted lawlessness in Civil War Ireland.

The Cork Examiner reported 1922 that a National Army armoured car used in an Irregular attack on the village of Ballymackeera had been stolen by its driver - an Irregular spy - while the rest of the crew was at the cinema in Bandon.

100 years ago, the started with members of my extended family taking both sides with my immediate family taking an Anti-Treaty position.
