Some #militaria left to me by my late mother. It’s a brass #IrishDefenceForces Artillery Corps collar badge: ‘An Cór Airtléireachta’
My great-grandfather Sam Field Corbett was in the Corps during the Emergency and also left us his recollections as to how ill-prepared Ireland was in case of a German invasion.
The woman on the badge is interesting. I’ve seen her referred to as ‘The Maid of Éire’ and #StBarbara - the patron saint of artillerymen.
