OK, it *is* a cliffhanger, but one I can live with. The story of this book is told and wrapped up. There is more to come and necessarily so, but you don't end in the middle of something unfinished.

Just finished #IronWidow by Xiran Jay Zhao and I loved it! Solid 5*. There were moments when I was reminded of the Hunger Games, even though the story is different, but especially all the media scenes had a very similar vibe.
So if you are interested in an ancient Chinese Mecha war with a rebellion against the Patriarchy, this is your book.
It ends with a lot of potential for the sequel but without a cliffhanger, which I appreciate. #bookstodon #books #reading #lesen #buch

I’ve spent 3 months trying to read Fire and Blood by George Martin after watching the series based on it (House of the Dragon), but OMG, is it a tiring book.
Gave up on it after realizing it was sucking my reading energy dry, and started Iron Widow by Xiran Jay Zhao and it’s SO. MUCH. BETTER!
I’m already past the 50% mark, and whoever described it as “Handmaid’s tale meets Pacific Rim” was 100% accurate.

@bookishbrews #IronWidow by #XiranJayXhao, which unfortunately wasn’t for me, despite being a big fan of theirs. That’s fine, but it also seemed really misfitted to the target age group and current market trends re. sexual & other violence in #YA so I have a hard time even recommending it to teen patrons. It was honestly more disturbing than any adult #fantasy or #scifi I’ve read! I really feel like I misunderstood the book’s goals though 🤷🏻‍♂️
