Distant views of Ailsa Craig on our walk this morning. I was on the shore with a lovely group from California and the UK. The Californians brought good otter mojo (they have special, true "Sea Otters" there*), and there were otters everywhere we looked today! 🦦🦦🦦🦦🦦
*Our otters are not sea otters, they evolved in fresh water but have adapted to life on the coasts. They need access to fresh water to wash their fur and spend most of their time on dry land...

More than meets the eye? The very enigmatic Kilpatrick Dun, on high ground south of Blackwaterfoot near the Isle of Arran's west coast. North Ayrshire Council are threatening to close Arran Outdoor Education Centre. The decision is due to be taken on March 1st.
There's an emergency demo and march on Saturday 11th February at 11.00 at the Old Pier in #Lamlash.
Go if you can, or write to the council/your MP.
#Outdooreducation is so important for teaching confidence in, and appreciation of, our amazing, but fragile environment.

Another day ashore. It’s stop/start at the moment and feels like more stopping than moving. I’m aiming to return to Kintyre & paddle to Tarbert where I’ll portage to West Loch Tarbert and then north up the west coast. Today the wind is strong and from an unhelpful direction. I can see a sea of white crested waves out there. It’d be uncomfortable paddling. #seakayaking #isleofarran
