it's everyone, show me your isopods!

Here is a tortie _P. scaber_ I found a couple years back. I just thought it was pretty.

Staring straight into the soul of a wise Dairy Cow isopod is certainly a way to end my afternoon. I was surprised by how my camera managed to pick up the rough bumps of this 'pod's face!

Still, after also taking photos of my marvelous Marbelized isopods, I really should consider saving up for a better camera than what's attached to my phone.

Armadallidium c.f. espanyoli "Marbleized" though I have a tendency to just call them "Marvelous" ;D

Really, I should have expected them to be this tiny as it said so on the site I bought them from, and yet, when they arrived, I was still astonished to find that, yes! They are quite small.

Porcellio laevis, "Dairy Cow" getting snuggly in the substrate.

After a short break from Mastodon, I am now back with even better bug friends.

Not really ttrpg content but I got to draw a bunch of isopods as commissions so you gotta deal with it for a bit. :)

First two are the color variations of porcellionides pruinosis

But, both Eberhart and I were wrong. In 2004, a new team, including Thiel and Schriever, re-evaluated the original photos. Instead of a pedipalp, they argued that this specimen was a member of a well-known deep sea arthropod group--the often long-legged munnopsidid isopods. Mystery solved. The photos in the new paper are of a much higher quality (Brandt et al 2004).

On the 21st day of my true love gave to me Bathynomus giganteus A. Milne-Edwards, 1879. This giant deep sea isopod approaches the size and cuddliness of a human infant. Claims of 30 inch specimens are out there, but 20 inches is more likely. Still, that is pretty big.

Do you think that if you've seen one woodlouse then you've seen them all? I certainly used to, but then I started doing macrophotography and a whole new world of woodlice opened up to me!

Thanks to my macrophotography I even found a new woodlouse species to England! A report on that here: bmig.org.uk/sites/www.bmig.org

On the 13th day of my true love gave to me Cymothoa exigua Schiødte & Meinert, 1884. Actually, C. exigua is NOT something your true love would give you. For those who want only sweet dreams, I beg that you turn away now.

On the 9th day of (and ) my true love gave to me Eubelum rusingaense Morris, 1979. This interesting little isopod was collected in essentially some grab samples on Rusinga Island, Lake Victoria, Kenya in 1947 by the British-Kenya Miocene Expedition of 1947. They seem to have been studying Proconsul, and instead stumbled on a treasure trove of invertebrates.

Hey fediverse, I'm here to add more soil animal content into your lives through my macrophotography! These 'ant woodlice' live exclusively in ant burrows, where they keep things tidy by processing any organic waste laying around.
