Remembering Yuri Nemoto, #JMU's first Asian American student today. She was a freshman at UCLA on Dec. 7, 1941, looking ahead to her 18th birthday on Dec. 8th, then finals. Her whole world changed overnight. After Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066 in February 1942, she was stripped of her civil rights and sent with her family to Santa Anita racetrack, the largest and worst of the temporary "assembly centers" to await incarceration elsewhere.
