This song speaks on my behalf. I don't believe in a benevolent God. I think all organised religions are vile political projects.
But I like the original message of the socialist Jesus Christ; the love, the forgiving and the basic decency. The questioning of obscene inequalities of wealth and power. The later twisting of that original message can suck my agnostic fat one.

#GreatAlbums - #1970s: #JacksonBrowne – #LateForTheSky (1974). Browne seems the original normcore dude till you learn he cut his teeth (and probably other body parts) backing Nico in the late-60s. This third LP has him shedding the Eagles vibe to realize the road (and the sky) is a lot lonelier than a girl in a flatbed Ford can heal. In Taxi Driver, Bickle hears the title track on TV at the moment his fountain of sorrow is about to rain blood.

During Jackson Browne's Running On Empty tour, my dormmates and I went looking for him at the hotel after the concert in Bowling Green, Ohio at BGSU's Anderson Arena (6 April 1978). I was in journalism at the time and when we saw opener Karla Bonoff at the hotel restaurant, I approached her booth and asked for an interview. Her manager shoo'd me away. Hahaha!
