Art for this evening. I still remember the first time I saw this painting in person, at the Getty Villa Museum when I was in college. It’s a large canvas, about 99 × 170 inches, and it was jaw dropping to see this real, enormous painting, that I’d only seen in perhaps Art in Our Times or an art history class slideshow at that point. The seething social commentary still feels so modern, alas.
