Another random phrase I want to ponder for some reason: "the beginning of shelter," taken from a 1959 article by Ada Louise Huxtable.
The fuller phrase read "... the accepted basis of since the beginning of shelter"—itself quoted by in his 11/3/22 article on .
I'm trying to imagine what even the possibility of being able to identify the beginning of
*any* sort of shelter, —physical, emotional, etc.—might be like or involve.

Society’s “activity rhythm” has never been so harried. Impatience is a contagion spread from gadget to gadget.

I can't really read but skimming has me thinking about these last words from : A recent writer, David Eggers of David Foster Wallace, wrote that John Updike never had an unpublished thought, readers have to wade through 80% of his work to find the 20% that is good. We should be more considerate of each other's attention spans.

' “A compression of time characterizes the life of the century now closing,” wrote James in his 1999 book Faster. Such compression characterized, as well, the preceding century. ”... information and communication technologies would have a particularly strong effect on our perception of time.. with which we’re presented with new information and stimuli...our interactions with others.
