I just learnt that #JeanMichelJarre, one of the musical greats of our time, turned 75. #Jarre is quoted as saying that electronic music is the classical music of the 21st century. Accordingly today I listened to what many consider to be one of his masterpieces, the album #Zoolook. One of the first to have used samples almost exclusively to create musical pieces that are intricately composed (partly because the equipment to do that was so expensive). A deep and wonderful album.
Happy birthday!

Damn, has there ever been another album so perfect as #Jarre #Oxygene? I listen to it rarely so as to retain the unique feeling I get from it, but it always gets listened to from start to finish. So much magic in those old synthesisers, with drama, delicacy and emotion all tied together with no weak moments. Sublime, and never equalled.
#Jarre's #Amazonia album is one of the most fascinating and surprising records to have come out. Experimental, yet at times beautiful, and utterly different from the sometimes tired records that appeared before it. It perhaps also laid the foundation for elements that would then appear in the more accessible #Oxymore. To think the guy was already in his 70s when creating it. A bold move.

It’s also interesting that this latest #NoiseUnit album by #FLA’s #BillLeeb has more melody than #Jarre’s latest, #Oxymore. The latter has interesting elements and also the benefit of taking the writer in a new direction, but for the most part lacks some emotional impact due to a lack of melody, apart from #Epica, which is quite wonderful.

@SignalsAndSorcery nice to see science supporting the general gut feeling that songs have become less varied, less melodic. It’s why it’s such a rich shock to the ears listening to old 60s songs.
Even old artists themselves follow the trend. #Jarre’s latest album is intriguing, but ultimately lacks the emotional impact (melodically variation) of the old classics.
