A quick Q for US journalists: How long does it usually take for FOIA requests to come back? I used the US legislation for the first time in January 2018 and the response only came back in September 2022 - four years and nine months after I sent it. And the thing I asked for was redacted. Is that normal, or was my request lost behind the photocopier? In the UK, authorities have to respond in 28 days and usually do. #FOIA #JournalismMastodon #journalism

Okay, #JournalismMastodon, I’m curious to hear what your views and ideas are for how Mastodon can help bolster local news. I’m not sure aiming to make it just like the bird site is the best approach; that site has some flaws that are glaringly obvious now. Anyone here think there’s a way Mastodon can fill the gap of reliable localized news created by the total chaos on the bird?
