@82MHz Finally played around a little with #FreeDOS on my Intel Atom.
What works:
#VGA and #EGA modes
#SoundBlaster emulation
#Adlib
#PC beeper
What does not work (yet):
#USB and mouse support
Not tested:
#Joystick
#SVGA modes
Will proceed some evening soon.
Here is some #MonkeyIsland running in #DOS on real Hardware with an actual PC beeper. Did not use such a setup since #ScummVM appeared.

Got an old #netbook with #32bit #intel #atom up and running dual booting #debian 12 #bookworm and #freedos. Debian works okayish until you decide to browse the web.
So this computer will become a #retro machine with a mail client and #libreoffice installed.
For FreeDOS, Soundblaster emulation should work from all I know. But is there a way to get #joystick support for 'DOS games? Are #VESA aka. #SuperVGA modes available? Did anyone try?

#pacman #cocktail update! When I got this cab, the machine only displayed white & no sound. I got the #monitor serviced & dialed in, also installed a modern #powersupply. So right now, I have a functioning Pacman! I think the #player2 button is dead, and I still need to test the player 2 #joystick. I have a ways to go but this #project #cab has been so much fun. #crt
