My wife is learning /#pandas for data science. Other than a bit of , this is her first foray into coding. It's so cool to see her go through the same stages I go through:
"Why the hell isn't that working?! Oh, that's why"
"It's working, and I don't understand why!"
"It's not working and I don't understand why!"
"Wtf does that error message even *mean!*"

She's using Jupyter Notebooks, what *should* she be using? VS Code?

I have checked the 0$ option but want to indicate that I do indeed use some of the tools/platforms (rather experimenting and no production use yet), only I (a) keep within the free tier (e.g. , or 's initial "free credit"), or (b) am lucky to have institutional access to an alternative platform (e.g. on HPC cluster with @gwdg or ).

Starting my third year of . Like last year, I'm using but unlike last year, I'm only going to solve using .

I'm not sure how many days I can manage to spend time working on the solutions.

Last year's have several learning points. If I find the time, I'll add some learning points for this year's.

are great for showing your work but they can quickly get unwieldy. Here are some hacks I use for good notebook hygiene:
- Clean up intermediary steps like “df.head()”
- Move functions and class definitions to another file and import them. Keeps your code easier to read and easier to reuse.
- Have some cells you were using to test your function? Save those in a tests file!

Stumbled on a new project by Zac Hatfield-Dodds (the Hypothesis person!) called "shed", github.com/Zac-HD/shed
It runs autoflake, pyupgrade, isort, black, blacken-docs on a project with a set of logical defaults. You can also use it with Jupyter Notebooks and Django.
Saves running all those tools individually
