I just noticed that the Spectacle toolbar style does not follow the system settings. Has anyone experienced the same thing?

The system setting for the toolbar style I'm implementing is not to show icon labels on the toolbar but I just noticed that Spectacle doesn't follow those settings.

@steffo For the past few days i've been back, temporarily, in #X11 not #Wayland & can confirm that here too, like you, my X11 context menu options are much poorer than i'm used to enjoying in Wayland. Golly!

I've used #kalu-kde for many years. It works very well in #X11 sessions, but is severely function-inhibited in #Wayland, for me [more details later, IF anyone here actually fits this tiny #VennDiagram intersection].

Searching online for help never reveals anything even vaguely applicable [i try it now & then, over years]. I don't, & can't, have an Arch Wiki account, so cannot ask in the forum nor the actual AUR pages.

@orowith2os I have no quibble whatsoever if your personal experience has been that for reasons x, y & z #KDEPlasma has proven unsatisfactory *for you*. It would be unspeakably arrogant & frankly plain ridiculous of me if i were to opine on *your* lived experience, & i try had to avoid that level of disrespect to others.

My quibble though, & the trigger for my expansive "cobblers" post 😉 is simply when peeps attempt to extrapolate their own 100% legitimate personal experience, onto others. That's a bridge too far, & i simply wished to point that out.

[Hoping now to alter the tone of our chat] May i ask pls, which distro/s have provided you this unsatisfactory KDE experience? I ask for this reason, fwiw. During my own adventures in LinuxLand [for which i remain eternally grateful, & still feel daily that all of us #Penguinistas are incredibly fortunate with this magnificent gift to us], I had unambiguously my worst KDE experiences with #Ubuntu-based distros, like Mint, Maui, Kubuntu, Neon.

Once i changed to #openSUSE #Tumbleweed [#Xorg], i had a wonderful Plasma experience; all of the bugs, breakages & annoyances from before, vanished. I believe the likely reason is that #Rolling distros ofc give us ALL the current pkgs, including the libraries upon which KDE relies, whereas #FixedRelease distros like Ubuntu do not.

After #TW I enjoyed another excellent Plasma UX in #Manjaro, albeit after three years of that i moved away for, ahem, "other" reasons... to #ArchLinux, where i remain. Its KDEPlasma #Wayland UX for me is even better than i had in oS TW [#X11], which is frankly a lovely surprise.

So, apols for that boring history, but i mentioned it only to illustrate that MAYBE [only you can know, certainly not me], if perchance your KDE UX might be happier in an alternative distro? 🤷‍♀️

@orowith2os Given #KDEPlasma has been my daily driver since 2014, i truly must be one helluva masochist. If you had merely opined that KDE is unsuitable for *your* use-case, you'd not have heard boo from me. However, instead you made an over-reaching assertion implying unusability for all. I demur. Generalisations are silly.

I'm back at my #ArchLinux #KDEPlasma tower now [which system remains, frankly, superb], but for several hours earlier i was using my #Fedora 38 #KDEPlasma lappy. After finishing all my usual browsing & such on it, i did the 200+ pkg update backlog i've been ignoring for a few days. Watching all the pkgs downloading via #DNF in #Yakuake, i shook my head in admiration... #KFedora continues to keep up really well with Arch, not only with the #Plasma desktop itself, but also #Gear & #Frameworks. 💜

It. Did. Not. Used. To. Be. This. Good, some years ago, so, since at least early this year, otherwise maybe late last year, something wunnerful happened wrt active support of KDE by Fedora. Nowadays it is, to be blunt, bloody excellent... kudos & thanks! 🎉

#Arch remains the holder of my heart, but if it went away tomorrow, i'd replace it with KFedora .

IMO, anyone who somehow dislikes #RollingRelease #distros, but loves KDEPlasma, who atm inclines to #openSUSE #Leap KDE, or KDE in some #Debian / #Ubuntu thing [ergo you get stuck with obsolete versions], really should seriously consider KFedora.

@unix_discussions Pls don't forget this fairly obvious point. The marvellous DE that is #KDEPlasma, with its myriad wondrous tools functions & features, is agenda-neutral. The various 1s & 0s ofc have no idea if they're being used for good or ill. In other words, it's not just nice decent peeps who might use it... sadly, also the scum of the earth also can, eg, #Nazis, #Fascists, #RWNJs, #ChristoFascists, #Racists, #Misogynists, #Transphobes, #Homophobes, #FossilFools, #Dictators, et al. Tis sad, but unfortunately true. 😭
