Re social media options in #Brazil, the appropriately named app called "#Koo" (if loosely translated in #Portuguese, literally it means "asshole") is gaining traction especially since its owners have taken a "free speech" approach that barely blinks an eye when "free" often morphs into "hate". Such lack of moderation is like catnip to far-right #Hindu nationalists who have flocked to the platform and whose world view is likely not far from how the right-wing in Brazil see things.

@jwisser I’m still trying to understand too... a lot of people on Twitter are having a series of strangeness with the federated environment. For some of my friends, it seems like chaos! It’s a mixture of fear and (a lot of) laziness to understand how things work around here. Hence the appeal of Hive and Koo. In time: I’m enjoying here a lot. The idea behind Fediverse is awesome and I don’t want to come back to a business oriented social media.

It is actually blocked in Taiwan so I've never used it, but I'm concerned about the rise of #koo - a #socialmedia platform which is taking off in many countries, especially Brazil. It has a dark history in India, where it is a site for #nationalism and #hate.
