Bennett's designs are by far the best I've found for #KSR's Mars novels, but are now hard to locate in the internets. Here's another one I've saved on disk several years ago:
@andrealuck
Here is William Bennett's concept of asteroid Clarke which was used as the ballast for the Space Elevator in Kim Stanley Robinson's #MarsTrilogy. In the novels, Phobos was also made a military base or something, which had a unique architectural design, IIRC.
Bennett has had some other interesting ideas about Mars colonies, equipment etc.
not all of them but not bad, 2312 and Antarctica still at another place #KSR
@inquiline In "The Ministry for the Future", #KSR describes a brutal flooding of LA: like, all of it gets flooded. But he also goes all #hopepunk/#solarpunk on us in that novel, so it turns out angelenos manage to save themselves: they find refuge on the motorway high-passes. 🛣️

@jhn7wlkr #KSR was invited to spend time in #Antartica as an artist in residence - his science fiction is deep in actual science but also very human - Antartica is great fun and a lovely coming of age story as well. His main character is rather a handyman in training which you might find fun.
@andrealuck
Wow! Impressive! In #KSR's Red Mars a team of engineers went there and made it a colony under architect Arkady Bogdanov, IIRC.
But could the North Polar Cap really be seen like that from an orbit around the equator? 🤔
Here is what Celestia renders for Phobos and Mars at present time:
@andrealuck
Kim Stanley Robinson's novel "2312" evolves around this exact terminator, where a city, called Terminator, travels on tracks around Mercury utilizing the hot-cold sides for locomotion.

Lot's of gravel here. And rust.
We'll need an energy source to make cement and rebars.
Yes, yes, there is geologist Ann Clayborn and her ideas about pristine planets. We'll find a way, after Percy finds life here. Or doesn't. (SciFi and reality mixed)

@tom30519 😀 #KSR already saw that coming in the '90s. It took 2 revolutions and a longevity elixir to unscrew things on (fictional) #Mars. The revolution we can manage, but we are at a loss looking for the elixir. Of course the elixir itself was a reason for someone to go to Mars, but the #snakeoil salesman has not yet had a take on it. Probably Holmes and Theranos are too recent a memory and too soon to try it again.
Also, that candidate cave is kind of close to the (fictional) town Arena, from Kim Stanley Robinson's #MarsTrilogy. Of course the vast majority of candidate caves is in the vicinity of (also fictional Martian towns) Sheffield and Nicosia.
Here are some maps I made, showing places mentioned in #KSR's novels re Mars: https://fosstodon.org/@65dBnoise/109212732193671405

Anyone reading Kim Stanley Robinson's "Mars Trilogy" or any part of it quickly realizes that while the novels are full of technical details, there are very few maps and those that exist are very coarse.
So, here are 4 Mercator and 1 polar maps showing cities, places and plot info, created while I was reading the novels. The background is a USGS Topographical Map from Wikipedia: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/48/USGS-PlanetMars-TopographicalMap.png
Suggestions and corrections (with references) are welcome!
