By accident, I have just started a #firefox instance on an old profile, which still had #duckduckgo as the default search engine. I was super frustrated by the search results, started my current profile, entered the same couple searches with my new default engine #kagi and got happy again: Kagi just gives me what I want and not some SEO crap.
Not going back. #kagi please keep up the quality!
Be aide everyone seems to be having a go at it.
I'm using #Brave and #Kagi as a search engine. No it's not free. Yes it's good.
I would pay for a cross platform Browser that doesn't suck and is open source.
Open source and free needs to be dissociated asap. This is what got us in this privacy nightmare, money needs to be made.
#Kagi, the ad-free search engine, has launched Kagi Small Web, an initiative to spotlight fresh content from the non-commercial web. The project, which includes nearly 6,000 authentic websites, is open-source and available through various channels.

#Kagi just gets better and better. Check out Small Web: https://blog.kagi.com/small-web
I’m really enjoying Kagi’s “Small Web” feature. They’ve integrated it into their search (so, like Marginalia), but there’s also a feed of new pages from non-commercial, personal blogs from around the web that have been curated by Kagi staff so far and, seemingly, by users in the future. I’m glad to see #Kagi fighting back against the ever-increasing SEO- and commercialization of the web. And they have an RSS feed!

#Kagi #mojeek #swisscows #google #startpage
Kagi just launched their "Search Stats" dashboard. The "Domain insights" is pretty interesting, it shows which domains are most often lowered or raised by users.

I think #Kagi may have been the missing piece of the puzzle for building my own Internet. Between:
- Filters on Mastodon so I don't have to unfollow people who share links from social media silos, YT, NYT, WaPo, etc
- uBlock Origin to block ads on sites that don't block or subvert it
- RSS feeds from the sites I do want to see
- And finally blocking and downranking sites in Kagi
I now almost never encounter paywalls (or "this is not a paywall"s), ad blocker blockers, and other annoyances. It's as big of an improvement as when I first cut the cord on cable. Maybe the next generation of the Internet is having control over the subset of it we actually see.
Wow, #Google appears to be terrified of #Kagi. No problem setting #DuckDuckGo as the default browser, but the manual instructions for installing Kagi no longer work (it would only let me add it as a site search), and when I installed the Kagi extension to change it, #Chrome asked me if I wanted to change it *back* to DuckDuckGo.
This appears to be yet another case of Google pretending to have competition while tightly controlling the range of acceptable competition. Paying for search is apparently outside that range.
#google #Kagi #duckduckgo #chrome
A nice feature of #Kagi. I may not have noticed this site was owned by Facebook otherwise. There's just a small icon way at the bottom. Not that I mind reading AI papers from Facebook. They are taking the scrappy open source underdog route with AI at the moment.
@marialeal @Vivaldi
If you would consider paying for ad and tracking free searches, https://kagi.com is great. I've tried Google, DDG and Neeva - but #Kagi has the best results as well!
@tek Downside to #Kagi: apparently the devs have a stink of ❄️🍑 about them if you go digging on their support forum 😩
/For now/ I am sighing and filing it under TNSTAECUC, and/or the fact that just about anyone going “I'm gonna make my own search engine!!" is somewhat more likely than average to be a speech maximalist of some kind.
But, FYI.
For anyone using #kagi search engine with #vivaldi browser, you can use reverse image search with this Image Search URL (in Vivaldi's Search Engines settings): https://kagi.com/images?q={google:imageURL}
For whatever reason, this isn't built into the Kagi browser extension yet, which would otherwise force you to fall back on Google or Bing image search. @Vivaldi
Wow.. Just like that Neeva search engine was dark.
https://www.snowflake.com/blog/snowflake-acquires-neeva-to-accelerate-search-in-the-data-cloud-through-generative-ai/
I struggle to choose between #kagi and #you , Neeva and Mojeek were on my peripherals, so I didn't realize they'd gone dark. Mojeek just doesn't cut it for me, but Neeva had my attention when it could be spared.
So far, my $10/month to Kagi has been completely worth not fighting with my search engine. I've been watching You for some time, and being in AI tech, I simply didn't trust it very much.
