"Cymetrodons" is my love letter to alien invasion and Japanese kaiju movies. It takes place on an alternate version of Earth called Geb, where human beings never evolved from apes. Geb is instead populated by three different civilizations: the Kektrish (a race of crocodile people who live in Great Kektrys), the Baskilians (a race of snake people who live in Baskilia), and the Nephret (a race of frog people who live in Nephret).

The Baskilians are magnificent technicians and have built robotic "limb suits" to give themselves arms and legs. The Nephret are prolific healers who distill medicines from the poisonous toxins on their skins, and they can also regrow their limbs or even change their sexes as needed. The Kektrish have a long history of civil war and have invented a weapon called "the Ghost Ray" that can decimate entire cities with one shot.

The story of "Cymetrodons" begins shortly after the last Kektrish Civil War, when the Ghost Ray is sabotaged by a Kektrish soldier named Grawuul. Following this, the Three Peoples of Geb are attacked by an alien invasion force. The aliens are known only as "the Strangers" and are impervious to all conventional weaponry. The Kektrish government wants to re-deploy the Ghost Ray against these invaders, but the rest of the world knows this would be an apocalyptic mistake. So Grawuul offers to lead a special group - WIT (the World Intelligence Taskforce) - to find a less catastrophic way of battling the Strangers.

Grawuul recruits Kroakoan, a Nephret doctor and peace activist who has personally witnessed the horrors of the Ghost Ray, and Thyssa, a Baskilian mechanic and daredevil who enjoys building killer robots. With Thyssa's help, WIT builds three gigantic robot monster machines to fight the Strangers: Motormouth, Roughneck, and Steeltoe. These giant robots are the titular Cymetrodons, and they are all that stand between the Three Peoples of Geb and extinction.

Time to redo my #introduction.

My name is Shaseni ("SHOSS-en-ee") and I live in #Colorado having immigrated from Scotland in the aughts. I'm quirky, and long retired from software development and teaching. I've been on Mastodon since April 2018.

My paganism is #Kemetic, working with the same deities that Ancient Egyptians worshipped, and my magic is #heka. Shaseni is a Kemetic name given to me by the goddess Nit (Neith) and the god Set, and it means "I tread on my enemies."

My pagan journey has taken me from living in a Hindu ashram when I was 20, through Taoism, the White Eagle Lodge, Heathenry, Kuan Yin and Buddhism, through to Kemetic Orthodoxy. I'm now in my 70s, and I feel as though I'm on fairly good terms with many deities and several buddhas.

Since my 20s, I've been involved with #healing, #magic, and practiced and taught many forms of #divination. I do read professionally. My favorite is Robin Scott's #UrbanTarot as I share her view that magic and wisdom belong not only to forgotten forests, places untouched by human hands, and to ages long lost to memory, but to my world, where around me I see beauty, wonder, and magic in the metropolis and power under the pavement.

I'm a #writer: a #storyteller and #poet manqué. My works are out there, under various pen names, if you're desperate. You'll find an overcooked motley of prose and poems from midnight streets; eat quickly and don't ask what the meat is.

19th century Europeans popularized the notion that pentagrams mean something "different" based on how they are drawn, and that this difference is somehow “ethical” in nature. They insisted that one-point-up pentagrams are “upright,” representing “goodness and light,” while two-point-up pentagrams are “inverted,” representing “darkness and evil.”

The so-called “inverted” pentagram with a goat’s head goes back to the French occultist Stanislas de Guaita in 1897, and it was later adopted by Anton LaVey as the Sigil of Baphomet in 1966. This has led people to assume that any pentagram with two points up is “satanic,” which actually isn’t true by a long shot.

This symbol is held sacred and drawn differently in many traditions, and it means something unique to each one. Within the LV-426 Tradition of Setianism, we do not consider the two-point-up pentagram to be “inverted” at all. We consider it to be exactly the way it should be: right-side up. Whenever we see a pentagram displayed with only one point up, it actually looks "upside down" to us! But that’s OK, we just chalk the difference up to personal preference. A pentagram is still a pentagram, no matter which of its points are facing up or down, and since it is circular, there is really no correct “This End Up” position. Think of it as a wheel: does it really matter which direction the spokes are pointing, as long as the wheel keeps turning?

Since we LV-426ers do not agree that the "inverted" pentagram is really "inverted" at all, we recommend a somewhat different terminology. When a pentagram is displayed with one point up, we call it a "standing pentagram," because it resembles a person doing aerobics, with their arms and legs outstretched. And when a pentagram is displayed with two points up, we call it a "horned pentagram," because it resembles the head of a goat, an antelope, or some other horned member of the Artiodactyla family.

Neither the standing nor the horned pentagram represents anything “bad” or “evil,” and whether you prefer one or the other is simply a question of aesthetics. There is absolutely nothing to stop a Setian from wearing a standing pentagram if it pleases her to do so; and there are also British Traditional Witchraft covens that use horned pentagrams to represent some of their initiatory degrees. So things are not so clear-cut between the two pentagrams as certain “experts” have been insisting since the 1890s or so - and they never were.

Sometimes people ask me why I have (horned) pentagrams all over me if I do not identify as a "Satanist." I can't speak for other Setians as to why the symbol might resonate with them; but for me at least, I imagine an antelope whenever I see it myself, which always makes me think of Set in His form as the White Oryx. (I prefer my horned pentagrams to be drawn "empty," with no animals heads; you can imagine the horned animal of your preference that way.) It also reminds me of Set's Imperishable Ones, the circumpolar stars of the northern sky. I've always felt Set looking back at me whenever I look into the horned pentagram, as well. So while it is not a symbol that "belongs" just to Set, I always link it with Him first and foremost in my mind. I like to wear a horned pentagram at all times to help keep me mindful of His presence in my life, as well.

Werewolves & Werehyenas (Part 2 of 2)

The second album, "The Ghoul," begins after Grace has given birth to a fresh litter of wolf pups, some of whom have inherited Hal's werewolf gene. The Ghoul lives with them and helps to raise the pups. He forms an especially strong connection with Molly, the smallest and youngest of the little werewolves.

One day, while the Ghoul is helping Molly with one of her reading lessons, he sees an article in the newspaper about a new crime boss who is terrorizing the city in which he used to live. This person, known only as "the Wraith," has been killing other crimelords and recruiting their men for her own gang. The Wraith also seems to have a personal vendetta against the Ghoul, challenging him to come and stop her if he thinks he can.

The Ghoul is overwhelmed with guilt by this; he believes that Anubis and Wepwawet demand he should go and set things right. Hal offers to go with him, but the Ghoul insists he must do this alone, as he does not want anyone in his new wolf family to be harmed. So the Ghoul leaves to clean up this mess, and when Molly finds out he has gone, she sneaks away and follows him, knowing he will need some help from his favorite niece.

Back in the city, the Ghoul learns that the Wraith's true name is Claudia Raines. She was a chemist who was working in her lab one day when the Ghoul blew it up, back when he was still a villain. Raines survived the explosion, but her body was doused in various chemicals that have turned her permanently invisible. Not being able to see her own face or receive adequate medical care due to her condition has driven Raines completely insane. As the Wraith, she makes all of her gang members wear the exact same costume she does, so that everyone in the gang is "invisible" too, and everyone is a decoy. She is obsessed with BEING SEEN, and she believes that teaching people to FEAR her is the closest thing she can ever achieve to becoming "visible" again. She also blames the Ghoul for everything that has happened to her, as well as for everything she is now doing.

Before the Wraith can kill the Ghoul, he is rescued by his niece Molly, who manages to catch up with him just in time. The Wraith witnesses Molly and the Ghoul both transform in the process. Molly takes the Ghoul some place where they can hide, and the Ghoul has an emotional breakdown, worrying that the Wraith will try to hunt down and kill the rest of their family. Molly comforts him by getting him to help her with another reading lesson.

Meanwhile, the Wraith sends her goons to kidnap Dr. Betsy Phibes and interrogate her for the location of Hal and Grace's Den. Dr. Phibes eventually caves; then the Wraith sends half of her gang out to the woods, with orders to track down the werewolves and wipe them all out. In the meantime, she and the other half of her gang will begin their next criminal operation back in the city.

The Wraith's goons learn the hard way that the entire forest is booby-trapped, and that each of Hal's kids is a formidable hunter. It doesn't take long for the werewolves to completely incapacitate the strike force and interrogate them. Hal then leads his werewolf kids as an army to go find Molly and the Ghoul. When they are reunited with the werehyena and his favorite niece, they all go back to the city to stop the Wraith.

While this has been happening, the Wraith and the rest of her goons have launched an attack upon the city. They loot and rob and stir up all kinds of chaos across the area, in different neighborhoods, and at synchronized times. With everyone in costume, the intent is to make the citizenry feel as if the Wraith herself is actually "omnipresent." But then the Ghoul and his werewolf family descend upon the gang, at each location all at once, and the Wraith's plot is foiled.

After capturing the Wraith, the Ghoul acknowledges that he is indeed responsible for ruining her life; but he is *not* responsible for turning her into the Wraith. He offers to help her own what she has done and become a better person, if she will let him. The Wraith just spits at him and promises to kill his entire family if she should ever break free. She is then incarcerated at a maximum security prison for the dangerously insane, where she is kept under constant surveillance with thermal imaging cameras.

And then the story ends just as it begins, back in the woods, with the Ghoul helping Molly with another reading lesson.

The Ungod is a hideous monster of isfet (the absence of Ma'at) from beyond time and space. It has only one single-minded goal: the total discreation of all things, including all Gods, all universes, and even itself in the end. In "His Nocturnal Majesty" and "Our Lady of Thrones," it appears as a giant mouth in the sky, causing most who see it to go mad with fear. Every villain in my entire fictional multiverse is secretly under the Ungod's influence; but most believe themselves to be serving either "God," "Satan," "humanity," "nature," or even just their own fragile egos. This is just how the Ungod likes it.

Under normal cirumstances, it is impossible for the Ungod to attack our shared multiverse directly. This is because the multiverse is built upon Ma'at, the truth and justice of the Gods, which is poisonous to all monsters of isfet. The Gods work together to uphold Ma'at at Their higher level of existence, preventing the Ungod from devouring everything all at once. But human beings are responsible for upholding Ma'at here at the terrestrial level; and if too many people work isfet instead, reality will fall apart and the Ungod can physically slither into our world through the cracks.

If this happens (as it does in "His Nocturnal Majesty" and "Our Lady of Thrones"), the Gods cannot simply reach in and save us. Human beings will have to do something here on our end before the Gods can step in. We will have to repair and rebuild Ma'at within ourselves and between each other. We will have to work some powerful magic to win the soul of humanity back. Hence why the Knights in Sutekh's Service must conduct a synchronized ritual together to exorcise the Ungod. Once there is finally enough Ma'at for such a team effort to be successfully coordinated, Set Himself reaches through the cracks in our universe, grabs the Ungod by its cyclopean throat, and drags it kicking and screaming back to the Other Side.
