Does anyone know of a good Mastodon app for #Kindle in the #Fediverse? I keep a social media feed on my Kindle for insomnia scrolling and would love it to be Mastodon. Thanks!

I’m currently reading #Frankenstein, Or The Modern Prometheus by Mary Shelley. I’m having a bit of a rough time, because, to be as polite as I can, her style is a reflection of her era.

I’m doing this because I want to catch up on all the reading that I was supposed to do in high school. (Apologies to Mr. D, Mr. F, Mr. S, and Ms. G.)

One of the nice things is that nearly all of the material is freely available on Project Gutenberg, and that means I can read them on my #Kindle.

Old #Kindle, model D01100. Small smear in the LCDs, doesn’t render even a letter illegible.

I have a newer Kindle. My old one collects dust.

Sell it? Maybe get $5.

But, I’d happily trade it for a guarantee it goes to someone who loves to read, especially a child.

Decrapifying (mostly) an Amazon Fire 8 HD Kids tablet via Linux

I'm not claiming it's a perfect solution, but here's what I did to remove, or at least hide away, enough of the Amazon bloatware to make a cheap tablet more suitable for my friend's children.

If you want to upload books to your Kindle and you have a Macbook, you cannot use the USB cable anymore. So if you have to start a content server on Calibre, then go to the content server's address using the Experimental Browser on your Kindle to download the books.

Figures. I finally get my hands on a second-hand Kindle from a family member, and it turns out nobody has found a jailbreak for the current firmware (5.15, released in September).

From the looks of it, unless you have a Kindle old enough to not get automatic updates, the whole hacking/jailbreak scene is pretty much stumped on how to continue.

Been messing around with #kobo and #epub without #drm - seems like it will work on the Kindle when it gets here.
