Dang! Read through the docs and realized #KipperBASIC is TCP only!
So to make use of a C64 as a client device, I might need to use #ContikiOS - not what I had planned for !!
But if we got to do it 'C' style, why not use one of the many #NodeMCU boards I got lying around here ... hmmm ...

Okay, I must admit that my recent interest in building and running a #ModelRailrod may seem quite "old fart" to most people. That's okay, since I am an old fart and I don't mind. I just think it's an underrated hobby that has many facettes of handcraft involved. I like that.
Anyway, what would you people say when I tell you that there is official documentation for the #Fleischmann #Z21 #DCC digital train control unit which documents the whole
TCP/IP communication via #UDP?
Now, what else would you say when I tell you that I am very tempted to tinker with #KipperBASIC on the #Commodore64 to try to use this combo to code a simple "makeshift" DCC client?!
Nerdy enough?! 😋
P.S: KipperBASIC is a loadable extension to BASIC 2.0 on the #Commodore64 that will make use of any cs8900a based ethernet card (RRnet, 64NIC+ etc.) and add TCP/IP based BASIC commands - just in case you didn't know ...

@living8bit for those who don't have an Ultimate64 but a NIC64+ or RRnet: there's "Kipper BASIC" to support your ethernet Hardware
