In case you were wondering how we attempted to find satellite signals in the #LOFAR data, here is a summary of the approach:
1. The basic idea was to use satellite #TLE (two line elements) to predict when a satellite would be crossing the field of view. For each of the beams (pixels) on the sky, whe then extract some data around these event times (+/- some seconds). These are like the spectrograms included in the paper. 7/

Today, a group of scientists including @cees and Yours truly published a paper on A&A. We report about a fascinating finding: #satellite constellations can leak electromagnetic radiowaves, originating from onboard electronics, which we detected using the #LOFAR radio telescope. 1/

A very nice study from my colleagues in #LOFAR. It detects low frequency emission leaked from Starlink satellites. They only focus on the effects in astronomy but there may be also security implications if there is information leaked in this unintended emission. https://cps.iau.org/news/new-radio-astronomical-observations-confirm-unintended-electromagnetic-radiation-emanating-from-large-satellite-constellations/
It's finally happened! My 2019 paper has reached 100 citations! 🤩 🥳

Did you catch our recent #ChandraScience image of Abell 2256, a spectacular merger of at least three galaxy clusters? The hot gas components of these clusters is traced with X-rays -- shown here in blue, using data from us (#Chandra) and our ESA-led friends at #XMM-Newton. This cosmic collision is also a source of radio emission, shown in red from #LOFAR, #GMRT, and the #VLA, produced via particle acceleration. For more details, see

#introduction
I am a data engineer working in the health sector. Formerly worked as an astrophysicist studying the relation between galaxy environment and nuclear activity and enabling state-of-the-art radio-astronomy surveys with #LOFAR. Also developed software for the #SKA and #ALMA for some time.
Next year will be my 20th #Python anniversary.
My radio amateur call sign is AE7KUL (previously MM0SKB).
I like #photography, #nature, and the #sea but do not have much spare time right now.

Hey there! I found this place on Twitter trends. #introduction I am born and raised in China, currently a postdoc working on solar radio physics, including imaging spectroscopy of the Sun observation with #LOFAR , Ray-tracing simulation for the radio waves of solar radio bursts, #IPS for inner heliosphere solar wind diagnoses. Interested in anything about #radio #astronomy #solarphysics.

I'm new on #astrodon so #introduction time: I started this year as a #scientist at #SKAO global HQ in Cheshire, UK - currently enjoying the countryside around here and continuing to work on using #LOFAR and other radio continuum #surveys to learn more about #RadioGalaxies and #BlackHole jets.
