Can anybody comment on the status of the Venus mission? I am failing to put the news I'm getting from into the right context. AFAIK the mission is delayed and funding was held back, but is the mission at risk of being completely cancelled? That would be a giant setback and very sad. I know, this is not your specific field of expertise, but @vicgrinberg do you have a take on this?

Its official. did not migrate to mastodon. The first day of the Lunar and Planetary Science Conference is almost over and there are only about 5 posts on , but hundreds on the site owned, run and censored by a sociopathic homophobe (among other things). Apparently, its business as usual for early career scientists that use social modia. 😞

The Lunar and Planetary Science Conference () has be held in since 1970 when the first results from the mission were presented. This year will be the last in Texas, and the organizers are searching for a new location.

This abstract "Ethics in choosing a meeting location" describes some of the issues that should be considered. "Is Texas safe for all members of our community? Unfortunately, the answer in 2023 is NO, they are not."

No Haiku's but two abstracts submitted!

#1651 is on some work I'm doing to understand features in the volcanic floor units in Jezero.

#1668 is on some exciting open GIS standards that will help with cloud-computing-native PSDI!

Water, water, everywhere… on Mars? A new study challenges the theory that water on Mars disappeared into space. @NASA-funded research and archived data indicate between 30 to 99% of the planet’s water is trapped in minerals in the Martian crust. go.nasa.gov/3tuU443 pic.twitter.com/ZDJkEZQR0Z twitter.com/NASAJPL/status/137
