fell a little flat on my face with #alpine. It felt a bit foreign but loved minimalist aspect to it. Banged my head for a couple hours and got to a place to install #lxd and it won't join the cluster. Something.. Something!! errors!!! lxd packages for #alpine feel like a miss match for what i have for snap on ubuntu.. I guess I have to try #debian now. Killed several hours on the #homelab and no further for it 🤨 😀
#alpine #LXD #debian #homelab #selfhosted #selfhosting
Aye #homelab got lots to do today. First need to rebuild my lxd host!! I was thinking debian but maybe Alpine! I guess I want something minimal underneath since I do pretty much all of my business at the #lxd layer. I have never used either that much! Sort of leaning towards alpine... maybe?
Like whats the equivalent of these #kubernetes OS's for VM's :)
The #homelab been kicking my ass all day!!! Lost a #proxmox host, bad ram.. maybe! Took out a stick and things came back, lost a #lxd host, couldn't get it back. Need to rebuild my 3rd #lxd host as well as add ram to my #proxmox host. Currently having an internal debate if I really need to add ram, or am i using this as an excuse to spend more money!
I should buy more ram right.. some one tell me to buy more ram!!! 😂
#homelab #proxmox #LXD #selfhosting #selfhosted
Going to do another live stream tomorrow, this time focusing on an initial #LXD to #Incus migration tool!

@jonatan It's super dope what you are doing though! It's the BGP for me. I use BGP internally for some software defined networking i do with an #lxd cluster I have. I can create arbitrary networks within it and it communicate with my physical network. Never thought to house it else where to route traffic different ways. How about those tech support calls when something isn't working and you need them to reboot something 😂
@elliot Like vlans? or actually do something like "Software Defined"? I'm doing that now with #lxd and #ovn! I spin up new networks ( that have their exit route inside of my physical network). When I need some seperation.. I do it inside of these networks and ACL them.. Maybe to damn complicated because nothing much changes :)
Starting to get back to my #ansible bag! Super simple like rebooting my #lxd and #ovn clusters after updating one at a time if they need it.!! Next time I do it, everything will blow up! 😂
#ansible #LXD #OVN #homelab #selfhosted #selfhosting
Well Well Well!! I was wondering when this was going to happen and I'm glad it did!! Fork of #LXD on it's way... I'm hoping it attracts contributors from lxd to it.
#LXD #homelab #virtualization #selfhosted #selfhosting
Been meaning to back up and git rid of some cruft in my #LXD clusters in the #homelab. I'm ganna start working on my mini rack for the #mini #homelab Aye yo!
Still struggling a little with the inital push to start new stuff in the homelab... Still feels a little bit overwhelming.. I just need to start!
#LXD #homelab #mini #selfhosted #selfhosting
I'm a big user of #LXD and after this #redhat thing and now #canonical moving funny.. I'm considering moving away from #ubuntu and move to #debian. Still will probably stay with lxd until this shakes out, but this trend of trusting companies to make moves in the interest of open source or community.. well yea. 🤨
#LXD #redhat #canonical #ubuntu #debian
@stgraber Your work on #LXD has been nothing short of amazing. It must be tough leaving your team and Canonical's decision to pull out LXD of the Linux Containers projects is disapointing.
Whatever comes next, I'm certain you'll tackle it with the same passion and dedication you demonstrated here. Any organization or project would be lucky to have your time and attention.
#LXD is no longer part of the Linux Containers project.

@ChrisUplus @travis I'm using #OVN with #LXD Cluster ( OS virtualization type thing)... and it's such a cool feature like you can create all these networks that live inside the cluster on all the nodes you want.. I love it.. Until there is troubleshooting to do.. their isn't lots of documentation.. hard to find resources.. help is just hard to come by. I probably wouldn't do it again, but i'm already invested, hard to come out of it.. Vlan's also are great.
Going to do the usual #LXD release live stream in just under 30min!

@OGSH Yea you are right. It's these small "this is cool" features that are starting to sink my faith in #lxd for anything other than running some os virtualization . The software defined stuff actually worked out once I set up some dedicated vm's for it. I'm also not feeling the forum help lately. It's been pretty sparse when asking for some assistance.
#LXD 5.15 has been released!
Comes with support for non-UEFI OS VMs, rebuilding existing instances and improved NUMA support.

I'm starting to feel a little fire in regards to motivation on messing with the #homelab. Lately I have just felt that #homelab burnout for lack of a better word. #uninspired for sure. I just let myself just smolder and feel it.. ya know!
Maybe facing this #lxd issue that I'm facing is starting to spark! not sure!
