Oggi ho visitato la valle di #Lalish nel nord dell'#Iraq dove si trova il più importante tempio degli #Yazidi.
Ho incontrato i loro sacerdoti e alcuni esponenti di una comunità che ha subito un vero e proprio genocidio da parte di #Daesh.
Doveroso ricordare il loro sacrificio.

I knew about the origin stories (including the famous and most unfortunate accusation of #Satan worship); the #cast system, the parallels with #Sufism, and the importaince of #Lalish. I did NOT know that Murids were not allowed to study writing, and somehow I missed (forgot?) that Yazidism does not have an authoritative #sacred #text altogether.

#Yazidism is a #Kurdish #religion, influenced by #Zoroastrianism, #Gnosticism, and #Islam. It is #monoteistic, with complex angelology, saints, and a caste system. #Lalish is its holiest place.
#Yazidis are persecuted by kinda everyone and suffered a lot in recent wars.
