Tomorrow I will be striking against Saudi Arabia’s war in Yemen that is funded by the UK government. My university, #LancasterUniversity has said they will stop investing in fossil fuels and phase out investment in arms however, they are continuing to invest in BAE systems one of the biggest arms suppliers to Saudi Arabia. Thus Lancaster University is complicit in the war in Yemen. There can be no climate justice without social justice and we must fight for fundamental human rights. The war in Yemen can not continue and our universities can not fund it.

Back in 2017, on a whim, we attended a conference at #LancasterUniversity on Rare #butterflies of #MorecambeBay.

One of the presentations was on the Duke of Burgundy (Hamearis lucina), and just two days later, having joined @savebutterflies we found ourselves on a work party planting the Duke's larval food plant – primroses – in South Cumbria.

I was hooked. Got involved in surveying habitat, counting adult butterflies and then hunting for eggs and larvae.

The start of my butterfly obsession.

@Janna When #LancasterUniversity library, some years ago threatened to deacquisition (dreadful word) books that had not bee recently taken out, while the argument raged many of us spent our lunch times checking the subject shelves of our specialisms & checking books out for the day that had been not taken out for a while... finally, good sense prevailed when it was accepted that books might (shock horror) have been read in the library without them being borrowed.

I happened to be walking around at Lancaster University today, when I saw this image.

A place if enlightenment and education, still depicting the poor women as hook-nosed, pointy hat wearing broomstick riders.

Completely unacceptable.
