We prefer the proportional #landTax. Land those who own the most properties the most, and then redistribute it. There are plenty of homes and bedrooms, they are just not being used.

Study upon study has shown that properties are used for #speculativeInvestment.

While that may sound nice what that requires is #massSurveillance of all payments, which is highly unethical, and goes against #Article12 of the #UNCharter, the #RightToPrivacy.

The most ethical way to acheive balance is to have a #LandTax that goes up exponentially the more land one owns, based on Improved value of land. Also known as Georgism because it was popularised a century ago by Henry George in 'Progress and Poverty'.

In the past we've extolled extensively a two-pronged approach. Yes #salesTax (#GST) is about #consumption. Reinstate the pre-GST #LuxuryGoodsTax. Initiatives like #GNUTaler limit online surveillance despite online payment. More about that on request.

A comparison between the three periods, before, during and after the so-called “land tax government,” gives a clear picture of the importance of eliminating land speculation and unearned increment in land.
As there was no longer any unearned income – incomes only resulting from production – the balance between the purchasing power and amount of goods was restored. Inflation therefore came to a halt because it received no nourishment.

The #AncientGreeks worked out how to compel their equivalent of today's #billionaires to pay their fair share in #tax.

When they don't, we all suffer.

Its reportedly called #antidosis (in english, #exchange) and it involves the #billionaireClass competing to pay the most tax they can, lest an #organicSwap/ exchange may occur.

When people know facts they vote against nuclear. As evidenced by recent RoyalCommissions and CitizensJuries.

Degrowth with more renewables basically has to happen. There are multiple pathways to get there. We hope Australia takes the most humane #ConvivialSufficency Pathway combined with #LimitToGrowth at the monetary level (no moneyPump). There's a #landTax, #luxuryGoodsSalesTax, (we had this in Australia) and UBI.

We have little faith in Australian policymakers, though.

HOW CAN BITCOIN HELP

It helps by:
a) not stealing from savers, when govts print money its actually an attack on people who choose not to spend (see #warOnSavers),
b) reducing #overconsumption and waste because it would costs real money,
c) making war #cost — as to some bankers it "just costs lives because we print the money",
d) making #landTax and #maximumRentalIncome possible as they are easiest to enforce,

Yes, one of the single greatest ills of the past decades is the growth in #rentseeking.

Technology appears to be accelerating the growth in #rents.

At the individual level it may be beneficial to enact a MaximumRentalIncome as they have in Germany.

Another option is an exponentally growing #landTax.

We may have started to use the phrase #hyperFinancialisation.

The elephantInTheRoom here is a #landTax with teeth.

It should start at 12.5% of the sale price per year. And go up to 50% depending no single entity or trust should own more than 1 billion worth of land.
