People don't go listen to locals (who are enjoyable enough?) because they buy records (or CDs or streaming services?). In a different context Yeats said that talent(?) used to be more diffuse, so with more narrow distributions we might start to encourage and enjoy growth in nearby people? Your post made me think of #LaoTzu80 too. Japanese Nobel physicist Hideki Yukawa said it was prescient against war and nukes.
